Whilst trawling the 1901 Census today, I came across a 32-year-old James Ashton living in Shoreditch in 1901. The transcription gives his occupation as "Fancy Pensioner". I just had to look at the image and was disappointed to find that he was an "Army Pensioner".
Has anybody else come upon an amusing occupation - whether genuine or not?
