WHAT TYPE OF DISC IS NEEDED

I have just had a dvd drive ( dual Layer ) installed internally. You mentioned in previous posting that it will
-R +R Does this mean it will read and write disc in same drive. ( sorry dont understand) I have a CD-R / CD/RW Drive  Burn Max52. I have tried copying dvd disc using burner but it is not working. Is it because I need different type discs. The ones I have are  CD-R 700mb. Also will I need new software I have Nero burner 6

The software is fine however you need to tell it what type of disc you want to create

dvd -R and dvd +R are two types of recordable dvd if you have had a dual layer writer drive installed it will happily cope with the most popular current dvd formats.

CD-R discs are recordable CD discs and while your drive will happily create CD's on these discs for you you cannot convert a CD into a DVD.

The primary difference between them is capacity on average a dvd will hold the equivalent of 5 CD's

When starting Nero 6 (if you are using smartstart) there is a menu item at the top of the panel marked CD/DVD CD and DVD select the type of disc you want to write here ... remember you need the correct type of blank to proceed.

Hi. the Nero Burner I have must be different from one you described. Mine shows type of disc to copy on to, in left hand column but does not have listing for dvd only cd copy.
Does this meen that I have to get different burner. This is what is listed :
CD-ROM ( ISO)
Audio CD
Mixed Mode CD
CD extra
CD copy
Video copy
Super Video CD
CD-ROM ( boot )
CD ROM ( hybrid )
CD-ROM ( UDF )
CD-ROM ( UDF/ISO )

Nero 6 is probably one of the best pieces of burner software you can get ,,

try running the main program Nero Burning Rom

There is a list to the left which is as you have described ..... above that there should be a single word "CD" with a grey box containing a black triangle pointing downwards .
Clicking on this triangle symbol should give another choice of DVD which will create another menu in place of the one you have described.

Also check to make sure you have the latest version of Nero 6  .... check the companies website www.nero.com  as updates within a version are free.

I wonder if the reason why illustration is not as you described is because my Nero Burning Rom Ahead Software   came with BurnMax52 CD Writer/Rewriter.
I did not buy Nero Burner software  separately. The writer was manufactured 2003. Perhaps I need to get dvd writer?

Was there no software with the dvd drive you had installed ?

If not, you will probably need to upgrade Nero or switch to another software burner.

If the Nero you have is version 5 or lower (check under help) I'm not sure if this can be updated to allow for creation of DVD's. If version 6 you can update for free from the nero website although there are 4 hefty downloads.

Yes I went to download last night but it would have taken ages so I cancelled. Will go back when I have time. The dvd I had installed was given to me by a friend so I dont have any software unfortunately. Will this cause problems. I tried to play dvd movie and was told I did not have dvd decoder, is this because I do not have installed software for dvd drive.

Not sure what you are trying to do but you did say in an earlier post that you were trying to copy a DVD disc and I assume you are trying to read the DVD original in the CDRW drive and write the copy in the DVD writier. A CD RW drive will not read a DVD but the reverse is possible. You will still need the software and I suggest you search for a download on the net. Input the make and model into Google. You should then copy your original disc to your hard disc and then write it from there.

Just a thought, But with one of my cd drives which came with nero i was only allowed to use nero with the drive it came bundled with and had to buy nero seperatley to use with my dvd drive.

As far as I know Nero comes in a different version for each make/model of drive. This means that if you already use Nero and upgrade your drive you will need to uninstall the old version and install the bundled software.
