Many thanks Megs Yes, George Cullingworth was John's brother. There were other children. I now know that their parents were Joseph Cullingworth and his wife Mary Ann Brown. They married 25 May 1840 at Morcott church, Rutland. Mary Ann Brown was stated to be aged 16 at marriage. She was daughter of Edward Brown, publican. Joseph Cullingworth died 6 May 1851 at Gold Street, Northampton, aged 36 years, tobacconist. Cause of death Pulmonary Consumption 'many months', which explains why the children were farmed out to relatives. Informant was Ann Stanton, present at death. I need to review what I have gathered and will post further info asap but didn't want to keep you waiting any longer for a thankyou! Regards, Culli

Hello again Megs For John Cullingworth to have been grandson of William and Mary Lambert and John's brother George to have been nephew of their daughter Elisabeth Whitelaw nee Lambert, I can only think that either (1) their Mother Mary Ann Cullingworth formerly Brown was a daughter of William Lambert's wife by a previous marriage, i.e. to Edward Brown, publican, named as Mary Ann's father on her marriage certificate. Or (2) perhaps Mary Lambert was previously married to John Cullingworth, publican, named as Joseph's father on the marriage certificate! Do you have details of William and Mary's marriage?
This is Joseph and Mary Ann Cullingworth's family: Birth: 3 June 1841 Edward Cullingworth at Great Russell Street, St. Giles, Northampton (Edward died 1866) Birth: 1842 Elizabeth Brown Cullingworth (died 1843) Birth: 24 Feb 1844 John Cullingworth at Great Russell Street, St. Giles, Northampton. (His age wrongly stated as 8 in the 1851 census. He was in the same household in 1861 when his age was given as 16) Birth: 6 July 1848 George Cullingworth at Gold Street, All Saints, Northampton Birth: 4 Dec 1849 Martha Cullingworth at Gold Street, All Saints, Northampton (Martha was with her parents at Gold Street in the 1851 census) The father, Joseph Cullingworth, died 6 May 1851 at Gold Street. His widow, Mary, later had another baby again at the same address, Richard Watson Cullingworth on 5 March 1853, no father's name on birth certificate and too late to have been her husband's child! This baby's death was registered in the second quarter of 1853. I look forward to your thoughts on this! Regards Culli
