1841 census please Palmer/Thompson
« on: Wednesday 15 June 05 17:23 BST (UK) »

Having had no luck finding them in 1851 I wonder if someone would be so kind as to have a look on 1841 census for me?
James Palmer b c 1830 Grafton
William Thompson b c 1824 Grafton
James married Sophia ? b Cinderford c 1830 but I cant find their marriage. In 1861 they were in Derbyshire with 2 children, one b 1851/2 in Walsall, Staffs.
In 1871 Sophia & children are with William and have taken his surname, again no marriage found. I am really struggling with this side of my family so any help would be appreciated.

Hi Joan

From the 1841 census:-

John Palmer, 40, Agricultural Labourer, Not Born In County
Mary Palmer, 35, Not Born In County
William Palmer, 15, Born In County
James Palmer, 13, Born In County
Edward Palmer, 11, Born In County
Harriott Palmer, 8, Born In County
Emma Palmer, 5, Born In County

Living at Beckford

They are the only Palmer family living in the area so I hope they`re the right ones, no sign of William Thompson though or any other Thompsons.

Regards, Sue

Hi Joan

I think this might be Mary in 1871:-

Mary Palmer, Widow, 67, Labourer, Born Bidford, Warwickshire
Edwin Palmer, Son, 40, Labourer, Born Grafton, Glos

Living at Grafton    RG10/2658

From 1851 census:-

John Palmer, 55, Agricultural Labourer, Born Broadway, Worcestershire
Edwin Palmer, 21, Agricultural Labourer, Born Beckford
Ann Palmer, 9, Scholar, Born Beckford

Living at Grafton

Mary Palmer, 48, Washer & Farm Labourer, Born Bidford, Warwickshire

She is listed with Charles New & Family, Farmer of 232 acres at Beckford.

Wow thats great, any chance you could send me the image? I just found some of them in 1851 on G Beavington website but John age 55 b Broadway is living with Edwin and a daughter Ann age 9. Mary is in another house as 'wash & ag lab' and William in yet another 'lodger 24 ag lab'
Broadway and Bidford are just outside Evesham Worcs which isnt too far from Grafton
