FREEMAN « on: Saturday 19 June 04 02:10 BST (UK) »
I am researching my Wilks/es ancestors in the vicinity of Gloucester and have posted under Gloucester County to this end, also connections in London (Middlesex).
I have had a reply regarding Freemen as a resource establishing Father - Son links. This information seems likely to be able to fill missing links due to the incompleteness or otherwise of the LDS IGI listings.
Obviously Census records also provide a resource emphasising the family (household) base, beyond 1841 nothing.
If Freeman records add to the available pool where and how to I find such records. Also what are the details likely to have been recorded for such events.
It seems that these Freeman records connect Son to Father which is my aim in connecting family branches. I am trying to eliminate jumping to cousins over succesive generations in going backwards.
Typically I have Samuel a Pinmaker the son Charles a Wiredrawer the Son of John a Sergeweaver etc. (Not factual, example only).
The inclusion of date of gaining Freeman status around 21 years of age at least keeps the generation steps in order and points to missing or eronious generations.
Any direction regarding this resource greately appreciated.
