Hi Kris

Being new to Rootschat I am not too sure if I am doing this right but here goes.

I am curious as to how you located Thomas Brewer on the different census, or is that a trade secret?  How do you find those that appear to be following the work as Thomas Brewer obviously did?  I would like to find him on the 1841 census so any advice would be appreciated.  Having done so much already I feel a little reluctant to ask but if it is possible could you help locate Thomas Brewer on the 1841 census or is that stretching it too far.  He would have been about eighteen years old.

Following up on your work I located Elizabeth on the 1891 census for Rhymney, Monmouthshire.  Elizabeth was listed as head of the household with William Brewer as son.
Your suggestion that William Warren could possibly have been the son of a sister or sister-in-law was spot on for on the 1901 census for Rhymney William Brewer was head of the household with Elizabeth’s relationship given as ‘Aunt’

What has been so strange with this family are the varying POB and the ages.  For instance:
William Warren’s birth place was given as Morley, Yorkshire on the 1851 census and as William Brewer on the 1861C it was Mally, Yorkshire.  William was not at home on the 1871 and York, England (81) Wellington, Somerset (91) and Mosley, Yorkshire on the 1901 census.

Anyhow Kris if you do not come back to me on this I can understand but if you do I will look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Roy

Hi Roy,

No problem at all. Make as many request as you like we don't mind at all. We enjoy the challenge. I have moved this to Devon. Devon 41 we can do though with the limited information it contains in can at times be impossible to find the right person. There are plenty of Thomas Brewers in Devon. It does make things difficult when these people are not consistant with how old they are and where they were born. I have found a possible in Devon though seems a bit young for a lot of his census ages, its not that far off your 1822. He is the only one in Cheriton Fitzpaine. Unfortunately no help with family.

Hi Kris
Many thanks for saying you enjoy the challenge, you have certainly done very well so far and it is appreciated.  I know what you mean regarding the difficulty of locating people when POB and age are not consistant.  Thomas Brewer has led me a merry chase with his date of birth.  Calculating birth date from his age given on his death certificate, marriage certificate, 1851, 61, 71 and 1881 census as resulted in a variation of 18 years ranging between 1813 to 1831.  When requesting help to find him on the 1841 census I simple selected age 18 yrs as a starting point.

His wife Elizabeth Brewer was far more consistant with her age at death, on the 1901, 91, 81, 61, 51 census and marriage certificate all calculating to a birth date of about 1823.

Best wishes
