1891 Census Lookup - Croydon and Battersea
« on: Monday 12 July 04 06:37 BST (UK) »

Is there anyone who could look up for me who was living at 7 Grand Parade, Croydon, in 1891 at census time? Also, who was living at 10 John Street, Battersea, Surrey at 1891 Census time?
Many thanks if someone can help.

Hi dgm

As most of the census returns on line, including the 1891, are name indexed not street indexed - It s easier to find a person rather than a street.

Can we ask who you are looking for in 7 Grand Parade and 10 John Street

Thanks Chris
I am looking for Walter Middleton, my grandfather and trying to track his origins. He was at 7 Grand Parade, Croydon, in the 1901 Census when he was aged 15,as an errand boy with Frank Saunders and family at their confectionary and Bakery shop. I am trying to find if the Saunders (or Sanders) were there then and even if Walter happened to be there. (We were told that he was orphaned when his parents were killed in a horse and buggy accident. So far I have only confirmed his movements to 7 Grand Parade in 1901).
His father was supposed to have been a bricklayer and I am trying to explore any connection with George Middleton and Sarah A Middleton and family who were at 10 John Street, Battersea, in the 1881 census.  Regards  Des

Hi

Could only find 2 Walter Middletons in Battersea on the 1891 census and only one of those was aged 5 as follows.

Name Age in 1891 Birthplace Relationship to head-of-house Civil parish County

Middleton, Walter 5 Battersea, London Grandson  Battersea  London
Middleton, Walter 4 Battersea, Surrey Son  Battersea  London

But nither of them were in John Street.

Thanks Ry and Chris for your responses.
Chris, is it possible for me to have the details of the 4-year old Walter Middleton (family, address, etc) in the chance that it might lead some where. Thanking you again (Thanks for the image of Walter Middleton, 5).
