Do you have thier marriage cert at all or know where they married?
I found a match in berkshire James VASEY married Eliza BUTLER this information has Eliza older than James whereas on census James is eldest.
I also checked freebmd and found a James VASEY married Elizabeth CURD
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page ~~~~~~~~ Marriages Dec 1879 ~~~~~~~~ Vasey James Camberwell 1d 1123
You can order the cert for this marroage online,
Camberwell borders Surrey and London area and is now classed as Southwark district.
I did chek for the birth record for James too, but didn't find anything. If you manage to find the correct marriage cert that will gove you a fathers name to go on too.

Hi there Sadsack!!
My husband's great granddad was James Edward Vasey born in Alloa around 1847. He married an Elizabeth from Lincolnshire, their children were all born in Sunderland. The children were Albert or Alfred, Mary E., John J., Robert H., Alvina and Eveline. My husband's grandfather was Robert Henry. Seems like same family -perhaps we can share information?

Hi Sadsack
It would be my husband you'd be cousin to! But happy to have a cousin-by-marriage! Have just begun to do a little research on Vasey family, so I probably have same info as you. James was born in Alloa, waiting for more information there. The family lived in8 Woodbine Street, then 50 Thomson Street and then 45 Thomson street. Robert Henry who was my husband Robert's grandfather was married to Daisy Tindall and they had three girls, Caroline, Mary and Vera, all dead now. He (RH) had very green eyes. The only other sibling I knew was Alvina - known as Ally. She married Richard Bellas (Dickie) they had one sone, Richard, and one died as a baby. All gone now but they were all cremated - may explain why you can't find graves? What is your connection with the family? We have some old photos. Where are you? We are in Bedfordshire. Any questions I can help with?
