DOWNER - Isle of Wight

I have found Charles Downer on the 1871 census as follows
1871 CENSUS: REF RG10 1163 ST JOHNS CARISBROOKE (NEWPORT) F63   P9
FUCHIA COTTAGE, SHIDE, ST JOHNS CARISBROOKE
CHARLES DOWNER  HEAD M 51 LABOURER               GATCOMBE
ANN DOWNER          WIFE M 49 LABOURER'S WIFE   MOTTISTONE
GEORGE DOWNER     SON    12 SCHOLAR                 CARISBROOKE

I've Searched Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in 1861 and not found him and cant find a birth or marriage either.  George eventually settled in Swansea, S Wales.  But Charles is a brick wall - any help will be welcome.

Don't know how you are getting on with the research, but there is a Charles A___rill Downer married in IOW Dec. Qtr. 1850, unfortunately there are 2 men and only one woman on the page, but I wondered if it might be worth a shot?  Info from

Hi Wendi,
Thanks for the suggestion, you found Charles Attrill Downer who married Edith Cheverton 25 Dec 1850 in Carisbrooke (source IoW Record Office card index).  You dont show any Downer interests but if I can help on that subject let me know.
