I am new to this site. I seem to be making progress on one side of my Mom's family, but have a real brick wall with her Dad's.... My mother's records, however, say this: Great grandfather: William Thomson b.? Hotel Keeper 1888/1889 Saltoun Hotel, Fraserburgh, Aberdeen Scotland Wife: Jessie Thomson (nee:Craig) b.? ( Married June 20, 1884, St Nicolas, Aberdeen, Scotland ) Perhaps four children: Alec, Jean, Jess & James
My G. Fatherson: James Thomson b.1889 Dec.2, 5p.m. at the Saltoun Hotel, Fraserburgh, Aberdeen Scotland moved to B.C. Canada c. 1911 WW1- Back to Britain in 1914 2nd Lieutenant 5th Gordon Highlanders
Married:Ethel Blunt Nov.1, 1917London...lived in Dundee Moved again to Mb. Canada in the 1930's with wife Ethel Marion and daughter Jean. ( d. Oct.8th,1952, Winnipeg, Mb. Ca.) This is all I have... the contradictory information makes for an even stronger brick wall...any help or information is appreciated. Searcher in Canada..

scotlandspeople have one match (death records) for "Isabella Thomson" other surnames "Clark" aged 39 in Lonmay, Aberdeen in 1879. - i didnt view actual records though, so cant be certain this is definitely the correct match.
kind regards, Lorna.

Many, many thanks for taking the time to reply with such an abundance of information. This is a great site, with so many helpful members. Moscan, for finding the way through the brick wall I've looked at for a year... Lorna, thanks for all that work...and we may have the right family tree after all....as Moscan says the index said Thompson, but the actual documents say Thomson.... All the very best to you both ....and many cyber hugs!

Hello, I am a newbie to Rootschat but noticed your Thomson. I have Thomsons married to Cuies in Rothiemay, Banff 1771. The Thomson is sometimes spelt as Thomason and the Cuie is interchanged with Cowie. The Thomson will be picked up with variant spellings but Cowie/Cuie won't due to soundex hearing the vowel sounds differently. This is on the IGI. Just a thought to help. From Innisfail

Thank you Innisfail, I have not seen that spelling ...I have seen the obvious Thompson. You will love this site...so many knowledgeable people here...and helpful and understanding, also. Maybe our clans will meet on a larger limb over time. I have just started with this name...and only because I have had so much help already, as you can see... from rootschat replies. All the best, JJ.
