Hi, Yes, James was the Doctor at 2 Greek Street. His brothers,Thomas was a Rev and William was a lawyer. All born Stockport. Sarah was the wid of Rev Solomon Ashton. She was born Saddleworth and died in Stockport in 1858. William had a practice in Under bank, Stockport. Any help would be great. Thanks.

When Sarah died in 1858, she was living at Turncroft Lane in Stockport. William her son also lived there until his death in 1866.

Hi Apart from James who was found previously in Greek St, non of the others seem to be showing in the 1851 census for Stockport, none of them were found on the 1841, if the husband of Sarah died in Stockport it would be logical that the family should be there, all the sons would at some time or other be away at various colleges, so have a reason for not being on the census, but not the mum.
Sorry for wittering on, just thinking aloud, I am lost.

Thanks again for the information. All the sons were back from Edinburgh Uni by 1835, James was appointed head Physician at Stockport hospital on 29 April 1836. William opened his practice in Under Bank in the same year. Thomas was appointed the first Chaplain to the borough cemetery in May 1836. His 2 children born in the 1840-1844 were born in Stockport, too.
William lived with his mother on Turncroft Lane Stockport until his death in 1866. So I think I may of come to a dead end with them. Many thanks for your time Peter.

Hi Had another go at finding them last night, felt lucky.
1861 RG9-2570-F8 25 Turncroft Lane Stockport
William H Ashton 49 head unwed attorney Stockport Sarah Ashton 13 niece Whitfield Derbyshire Rebecca Hudson 67 serv unwed domestic Stockport
1851 HO107-2157-F148 25 Turncroft Lane Stockport
Sarah Ashton 69 head wid land and property Saddleworth William Henry 38 son unwed attorney Stockport
Would Sarah (niece of William) be the daughter of Thomas, if so then Thomas would seem to be in Derbyshire in 1851, could this be him in 1861 ?
1861 RG9-2543-F5 Highfield House Blackwell Derbyshire
Thomas S Ashton 52 head wid farmer Stockport Thomas S Ashton 17 son unwed Stockport
