Jacqui,
As you don't know whereabouts in Scotland they lived, I think that the only way to check the Scotland 1871 census for George REEVES b Kent ca 1841, and daughters Jessie ca 2 b Berkshire Windsor, and possibly baby Annie will be on the pay per view site: http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
The indexed 1871 census for the whole of Scotland is online there. And, depending on the information you find on the census, you might also be able to locate (and download) Annie's birth certificate.
HOWEVER, I have now had a look at the English censuses and can confirm that the following birth in the IGI at: http://www.familysearch.org is your Annie Annie Elizabeth REEVES b 29 August 1871 Edinburgh, Midlothian Scotland Parents: George REEVES and Sarah Mary TILLETT
And the following christening in the IGI is your George George REEVES chr 15 Sep 1839 St Mary Cray, Kent Parents: George REEVES and Elizabeth
1861 George is an Assistant Draper in Hastings, age 22, b St Mary Cray
1871 Presumably he and his family are in Scotland
1881 George is a Lodger in Barking, a married Commission Agent, age 40, b St Mary Cray Sarah M REEVES is in her father John TILLETT's house in Barking. With her is what is presumably another of George and Sarah's children - John's granddaughter Caroline REEVES b ca 1878 St Mary Cray Other REEVES children - Jessie 12, Annie 10, Louisa 8, George 6 and Ada 4 (all children born in England apart from Annie) - are with their grandparents in Orpington (with a note indicating that they were the children of George REEVES jnr).
1891 George and Sarah are together in London, George a Clothier's Assistant. With them is a 6yo daughter, Elizabeth, born in Walthamstow Annie E REEVES is living by herself in London, 20, a Dressmaker, born Scotland Edinburgh
1901 I don't see George and Sarah. Annie E REEVES, 29, a Dressmaker born Scotland is living in Chelsea with Benjamin BANFORD, a Police Constable, wife Kate B 22 b Kent Tunbridge and their 1yo son. Annie is listed as Benjamin's sister-in-law.
Regards,
JAP

Jacqui,
99%!
What's wrong with 100%?
Naturally, my very first step was to look on FamilySearch where I found a likely birth of an Annie REEVES in 1871 in Scotland to a George REEVES and a Sarah TILLETT. But, at that stage, I could not guarantee that this was your Annie.
I started to reply saying you should look on the paying site ScotlandsPeople and download the birth cert and also look for them there on the indexed 1871 Scotland census (as far as I am aware, that paying site is the only place where you can find a Scotland-wide index for that census).
But, before submitting that post, I thought I would have a look through the England censuses.
So I then went through all the censuses and IGI records, and found a great quantity of information. (I didn't post all of that information - I've left some of the fun of the chase to you because I believe that the journey is far more interesting than the arrival. You will be able to find out a great deal about the family from the IGI and the England censuses.)
Having eventually - after following almost everybody else through all the censuses - found a George of the right age and born in the right place still alive in 1891 and with a wife named Sarah (though, at this stage I couldn't know whether it was the same Sarah of the IGI Scotland birth) I went back to search for him in 1881. Although he was a lodger, he was listed as 'married' (i.e. a wife still alive) in 1881, so I searched for a Sarah REEVES - and there she was in the same town in her father's TILLETT household.
Which, of course, immediately linked her to the IGI birth of Annie in Scotland to George REEVES and Sarah TILLETT.
Happy searching,
JAP PS: I do seriously suggest that you register with ScotlandsPeople and download Annie's birth certificate, and the 1871 census entry for the family. The minimum charge is a very reasonable 5 pounds and, within this minimum fee, you should have no difficulty in obtaining that information

Hi there
Thanks for the reply. You're right, most of the fun is in the chasing and not the arrival.
It's not Annie who is related to me it's her sister Ada who is (or rather was) my grandmother. I couldn't find anything on her so I tried to find the family through Annie and thanks to you I think I have.
All the info I had to go on was my grandparents marriage certificate. Ada Reeves married William John Longhurst in Sheerness on 15th March 1903. Ive traced his family back to 1790 (and met some distant cousins on the way which was nice) but nothing on her. All I got from the certificate was her age (25), and father George occupation commercial traveller. This seems to fit in with the George you found as he seemed to move around quite a lot.
Thanks again for all your help
