Searching for little needles in big haystacks
|
Looking for John Shepherd born 1843 at Ebbesborne Wake, Wiltshire.
John married at Abbenhall, Gloucestershire in 1863.
His wife Sophia Bullock lived in Mitcheldean so I believe John will be in that area in 1861.
Sophia Bullock, b 1847, should be in Mitcheldean, possibly with her mother Ann b circa 1819.
Any help much appreciated.

Not found the Shepherd connection, however, on the 1851 in Gloucestershire, Mitcheldean is
BULLOCK Ann Widow/er 42 Lodging House Keeper Taynton
Mary 19 Dressmaker Taynton
George 9 Scholar Mitchel Dean
Sophia 3 Mitchel Dean
Not sure if this is your Sophia as she would only be 15 at the time of the marriage. However I did not see any other sophia bullocks in this village.

my apologies for not answering sooner - somehow I have missed a few posts.
Yes, that is my Sophia. I never could find a marriage for her as I was looking in the wrong years! I always thought my great grandfather Sydney was her eldest child because she was 20 years old when he was born.
When Munchies found them on the 1871 census ( the only census they are on! ) I saw she had another son aged 7 and was just 24. I then found her marriage in 1863.
I am puzzled that a whole family could vanish without trace except for one son who turns up 20 years later at the other end of the country.
I am waiting for John Shepherd's birth cert. to find out his mother's name. The marriage cert. gives his father as Elias Shepherd.
I am stumped at the minute but you never know.....
