Patience my ****, I'm going to press something...
|
Hi,
can anyone help me identify a great uncle who I can't seem to find a trace of.
Lionel Cooper was apparently a miner at Highley during the early part of the 20th century, possibly pre -WW1. He was born, I believe, in Kidderminster in Worcestershire probably somewhere between 1880 and 1910.
He had five sisters, Elizabeth, Lily, Edith, Nellie and Phyllis.
I can find some of these people but not all of them and no sign of Lionel.
If anyone can trace him and any details of the rest of the family, I be most grateful, (and duly impressed ).
Many thanks,
Adrian Jordin

Do you know who Lionel's parents were or the dates of birth of any of his sisters? These might help to trace the family - I can only find one Lionel Cooper - in the 1901 census born 1897 but he is in Yorkshire with his parents Bertha and Louis.

Gill,
Unfortunately this is part of the problem...
The most I know at the moment is that his sister Elizabeth Cooper married Herbert Thomas Hobbs in 1912. There is some confusion over their parents - details from living relatives are sparse (I am trying to dig out some more info), and I can't locate either parent definitively. Their parents, according to my mother, were F John Cooper and Lavinia (maiden name unknown).
I can't find a census record anywhere of the entire family together, so I was trying one of the lost ones to see if that could give me any clues.
It looks as if I will have to try a touch of Third Degree Interrogation on some more of my relatives...
Thanks anyway for your efforts,
Adrian

Can you get a marriage certificate for Elizabeth Cooper - that will confirm her father's name. There are only two Lavinia Coopers that I can see and neither of them look like a candidate.
