Pontefract church registers.
« on: Saturday 18 June 05 09:34 BST (UK) »

I hope I have put this in the right place.

The LDS website tells me that my Great Great Grandfather William Lund was christened on the 8th September 1819 at Pontefract.

I know he later married Isabella and they had three children, the LDS website says they were christened on the following dates:

My Great Grandfather George christened on the 4th of December 1842, his sister Ruth  christened on the 5th of September 1853, and another sister Ann christened on the 7th of November 1855, all at Pontefract.

I assume they got these records from a church register, would there be any more information to find if I could find this register?  If so where should I start to look?

Also I am from Huddersfield, all I know about Pontefract is it has (or used to have), a  liquorice factory and an army barracks.

Thank you,

Tony.

Maybe you should arrange a trip to the WYAS at Wakefield -

Have you ordered George's birth certificate ?

Hiya, im tracing my family around the Pontefract and Castleford area. Id recommend going to Balne Lane library in Wakefield. They are very helpful and there's lots of information available.
