Searching for parents of John Dobbie born Possibly Edinburgh C 1836. Married Jane Mcindoe Glasgow 1854 Occ Tinsmith. Children given family names of Greenhill, McBeth and Mcindoe. Family moved to Liverpool 1866.

Hi,  you can use http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ to search for the SRO marriage record that will give the names of the parents of both bride and groom.

The site "quick search" shows: -
McIndoe - OPR Marriages (1854 - 1854) - six records
Dobbie - - OPR Marriages (1854 - 1854) - sixteen records

It is a pay for view site but only costs £6.00 for 30 credits.  So, you might be able to get birth records as well as marriage records, etc for the parents of John and Jane.

Thanks Des, I already have the marriage record from the OPR which does not give the name of the Parents, the marriage was in 1854 before registration became law in 1855. I have not visited Scotlands People yet, I have used the LDS centres for my research and have not been able to go further back. Does the Scotlands People site have more records?

The OPR's go back to 1553.  It is a good source if you are researching Scottish roots.  These are the searches available: -

Search All Old Parish Records

I have a copy of the 1881 census for Scotland if there is anything you want me to look for on it.
