1841 Census Lookup - Rixon
« on: Saturday 18 June 05 21:41 BST (UK) »

Hi!

I am hoping that someone can find Ann Rixon in the 1841 Census, probably
in Faringdon.

She was married in Faringdon in 1789 and therfore would have been about
70 - 75 years old. She was married to William Rixon, but I think she was a
widow by 1841.

FreeBMD shows the death of an Ann Rixon in the district of Faringdon in 1842,
but I'm not sure if this is the Ann I'm looking for.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi - me again

I don't have the 1841 census for that district - but I do have some register transcripts for Farringdon - I have just had a look at the burials 1812-1860 for you, and found (amongst others)

1836 Ann Rixon aged 73
1840 William Rixon aged 84

these were the only two entries with the right names and approx ages that I found - what do you think?

Hi!

Thanks for looking into this for me.

I think that these deaths relate to the William and Ann that I am looking for and
that the entry on FreeBMD and therefore the Ann who appears in the 1841 census
is their daughter-in-law (I think she married their son, who was also called William
in 1816).

I'm basing this on the info I have found on the IGI which shows the marriage of a
William Rixon to Ann ? on 29th Dec 1789 (although this is a submitted entry). This
would tie in with their ages when they died, although I appreciate that it's not
exactly conclusive!!

Would it be too much trouble to ask you to try to find the burial of the Ann whose
death was registered in the Qtr to Mar 1842, so that I can find out her age, as I'm
hoping that this might prove my theory (or not as the case may be!)

Thanks!

Hi Ju

I did look for the 1842 burial when I found the others but it wasn't in Farringdon parish - and Farringdon Registration District contains quite a few parishes - I don't have the registers for sorry

Hi, I have also been trying to trace Ann and William Rixons Descendants, you say they had a son, William who married an Anne?
Can you give me any more details?

All the info I have on the Rixon family is on my website:

What is your Link to the Rixon's?

Hi!

My ggg grandfather was James Kent. He was the illegitimate son of Mary Kent and was
born on 12th February 1799, being christened in Ardington on 24th February 1799.

James married Sarah Rixon at The Church of the Holy Trinity, Ardington on 1st June
1823. The marriage is recorded in the Parish Records as follows:
James Kent of this Parish and Sarah Rixon of the Parish of Wantage? were married in
this Church by Banns, both being of full age, on this the 1st day of June 1823,
by me, William Hayward, Curate.
Both made their mark in the presence of John Wilkins and Sarah Huett.
(James' mother, Mary, had married John Wilkins in 1804)

Census returns indicate that Sarah was born in Faringdon and the IGI has an entry for
the baptism of a Sarah Rixon there on 23rd May 1801. It shows that she was born on
27th April 1801 and was the daughter of William and Ann Rixon.

The IGI has the following entries which relate to William and Ann's other children:
William           Christened 6th May 1795
Hannah          Christened 26th Feb 1797
Charles          Born 8th Aug 1803    Christened 24th Dec 1803

The IGI also has submitted entries for the following marriages, which I think relate to
William and Ann's children:
William to Ann Elbro on 24th March 1816, in Faringdon
Charles to Ann Lee on 17th Oct 1824, in Faringdon

This is where I run into difficulties with the many Ann Rixons!

Perhaps if someone can find them families of Charles and William, the sons of William
and Ann, it might shed a bit of light on the subject!

Anyway, that's how I'm linked to the Rixon family and if you would like any other info
on Sarah after her marriage to James Kent just let me know.

Ju

PS. I thought your website was great - it must have taken ages to compile all that info!

Thanks for those details, the Sarah you are looking for is already on my tree along with Charles and William (I didn't know about Hannah - Thanks for that I will do some research there!) Her father is William Rixon born 1753 in Faringdon, He married Ann on 29 Dec 1789 so there may be a few more children I havent come accross yet. If you have a look at my website again you'll see the tree goes back to 1637 from there!

We share Richard Rixon born 1666 as an ancestor, I think this makes me your eight cousin once removed as I am a further generation down the tree from you.

I think this family is a recent addition to my tree so I'm currently researching their descendants and will add the info to my tree, hopefully by the end of the week.

I would appreciate it if you caould pass on all the info you have regarding Sarahs Descendants so I can add them to my tree.

Thanks
Tan

P.S. It does take a lot of time but it's so interesting it's compulsive research if not at times obsessive... It's a pity these websites are quite expensive but I guess it's cheaper than several visits to the pub and far more rewarding (it also gives you something to talk about at the pub!!)
