Carlton Lodge in Heath & Reach

Trying to find out more about this house called Carlton Lodge. My Gr Gr Grandfather, James H Lune was employed there as gardener. Originally from B'ham he moved to Heath and Reach possibly between 1901-1910. He died there in 1919. Ideally I would like to know who his employers might have been but also interested in the genearl history of the house. At his time of death he was survived by his wife Elizabeth and there was also a maid, Jessie Woodward living at the house at the same time. Any information would be helpful.  Thank you.

Carlton Lodge in Heath & Reach was leased in 1907 by a 'Mr Saunders' to a Mr G Fisler'.

It was sold again in 1915 & again in 1926.

I have looked up the Kellys Directory 1890.  The house was then known as 'Heath House' and belonged to Mr John BUSHELL...after his death, I think, his widow leased it out as she is mention in later transactions.

I've just come across who was living at Carlton Lodge in 1901- it was Paper manufacturer Edward P Saunders as mentioned below.

RG13/1507 folio 35 page 2

Hello Graham

I was in Bedford lbrary today so looked up the 1914 and 1920 Kelly's directory of Heath and Reach for you.

It was not produced(nor were the electoral rolls of course)during the war years.

In 1914 the owner and resident of Carlton Lodge was a Mrs Bushell(no intials I'm afraid  Roll Eyes) and in 1920(which was the next available directory) it was a Miss Perks.
