Hi gollygee
You did not say wether you had the 1901 census information or not - so here it is
RG13/ 895/ Folio50/ Page 6 - Bonds Cottage, Frant
Horace Goldsmith, 7, born Frant, Sussex, Son. Jesse Goldsmith, 9, born Rotherfield, Sussex, Son. Joshua Goldsmith, 42, born Rotherfield, Sussex, Head - Carter on Farm Mark Goldsmith, 4, born Frant, Sussex, Son. Ruth Goldsmith, 35, born Rotherfield, Sussex, Wife. Walter Goldsmith, 12, born Rotherfield, Sussex, Son.
Hope the above is of some assistance

Hi there
Got to agree about its harder to find ancestors after 1901.
One of the ways is through the street directories of the day, usually found in most libraries; especially as your father remembers visiting a butchers shop in Tunbridge Wells - they have just got to be in the directory. Another avenue is through electoral registers, again kept in the local library. Lastly, have you tried looking for Goldsmiths in todays phone books in the area in which they lived in early 1900's (Tunbridge Wells) if any appear, take the bull by the horns and give them a ring
