Hi, Is there anybody that could look up some information in Auckland City Library for me?
I would like to learn more about George Edward Bodle. He was born in England (in Alfriston or Hailsham, Sussex). He was responsible for naming Alfriston Road in Aukland. The following information was noted in NZ Gazette 1882: Register of Medical Practitioners
George Edward BODLE 1866 ... .. Lic. R. Coll. Phys. Edin.; Lic. R. Coll. Surg. Edin. 1874 Dec 14 Registered as a Medical Practitioner 1882 ... .. Left the Colony
I think that he returned to New Zealand and died there.
I have heard that there is mention of George Edward Bodle in a book "THE VINTAGE YEARS: A RECORD OF ALFRISTON-BROOKBY SINCE THE 1850'S" by WILSON, LORNA. A copy of this book is in the Auckland City Library (its in the basement). Could somebody look up any information regarding George Edward Bodle (and any other Bodles) in this book?
Regards
Mark

Hi, the book is a cracker, would good to purchase if you could find a copy (c 1975 ?, I think).
There are a number of Bodle entries and a photo of George Edward Bodle and another photo of a Mr and Mrs Larry Bodle.
They were very much part of a small community.
PM your email to me and I will send an extract.
Newspaper extract (Hills Index)
Births of a Mary Ann and a Ellen Bodle (Twins)
Death: George Angus Bodle, eldest and dearly loved son of George Edward Bodle of Bushey Lodge, Papakura Valley, aged 5 years and 6 months. December 1st 1878.
Will recheck the birthdate of the twins this friday.
Bushey Park is the Bodles name for their farm (110 acres) and the area is still called that now (c 1975).
