MELLISH Ann/e - convict to Australia
« on: Saturday 04 September 04 06:38 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I am in Australia and looking for any information on Ann/e MELLISH convicted at Antrim in 1824 of stealing from the person and sentenced to 7 years transportation.  She arrived in Sydney in 1825 on baord the Mariner.

I got most of these details from a website and have no particulars of conviction, birth etc.  She was 23 years old when convicted which would make her date of birth abt. 1801.  She was a milk, butter and cheese maker.

I would appreciate any links you can suggest that may help me find her birth and conviction details.

She married twice in Australia, firstly to Thomas Green, who died quite young and then to William Jones.  I'm not having much luck finding her death due to the common use of the name Jones.

Many thanks

Hi Carol

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Hi Ticker  Grin,

No I'm sorry I don't have any extra information.  It could help if there is any way of getting details of her conviction, perhaps something in the trial information will tell me specifically where she came from.

thanks

Hi Carol

apologies if you have seen the following:

There is a data base of irish convicts
http://www.nationalarchives.ie/topics/transportation/search01.html

however, the following is noted

While the collection of convict petitions dates from the beginning of transportation from Ireland to Australia in 1791, all transportation registers compiled before 1836 were destroyed in the Four Courts fire of June 1922. Therefore, if the person you are researching was convicted before 1836, but was not the subject of a petition, he or she will not appear on this database.

Hi Carol if you go to:-
www.bdm.nsw.gov.au  you will find Ann's marriage to Thomas Green in 1826. You can do various searches. It's a great site.

Hi,

I have the details of Ann's marriage to Thomas Green.  He died shortly thereafter and she then married a man called William Jones.  Due to the wide use of the name Jones I am not having any luck tracing her or her husband William any further as I said in my first post.

Many thanks
