Hi everyone, I am new to this so please bear with me! I am trying to trace a family of surnames DUDLEY and SANDERS who I believe lived in Kempston. I have Mary Dudley, born around early 1830's, daughter of John Dudley, who married Henry Sanders/Saunders in 1857 in Shropshire. The 3 children that I am aware of were all christened in Kempston parish in 1861 and 1862, so I am hoping to locate them as the Sanders family in Kempston in 1861. I suspect this may have been Mary's parish of birth, and wonder if she may have been living there in 1851 also. Can anybody help me?! Many thanks!

Hi kvkiwi,
I think this could be them in 1861 She's the only Mary Sanders born Kempston I could find, anyway
RG9/990 Folio 83 p. 25
Kempston, Bedfordshire 'Village'
Ann Dudley, head, wid, 66, Pauper (formerly Laundress), b. Bedfordshire Marton Benjamin Dudley, son, unm, 21, Ag Lab, b. Kempston Clara Dudley, Granddau, 3, b. do.
Same address or next door: Henry Sanders, head, 28, Bricklayer, b. do. Mary, wife, 37, Laundress, b. do. Sarah A, dau, 1 mth, b. do.
Does the name Sarah A match with what you know?

Hi Tanja! Thank you so much that definitely looks like them! You have no idea what this means, I have been searching so long!!! I have Henry & Mary's marriage certificate (1857, Shropshire), where Henry was stated as a bricklayer, and their 2nd child was Sarah Ann, bap April 1861 at Kempston. Is there any sign of additional children? My ancestor was their son Dudley John Sanders, b 1859 (also bap April 1861 at Kempston).
Many many thanks! Kelley in NZ

Thank you so much David! That is an enormous help to me, these people have eluded me for so long! I wonder if I could trouble you further to see if Henry SANDERS was also in Kempston in 1841 or 51 (son of George Sanders). He would have been born around 1833 (thanks to the info received from Tanja, above, from the 1861 census). This is the Henry who married Mary Dudley in Shropshire in 1857. Many many thanks for your help anyway, this has already been a huge breakthrough! Best wishes,
Kelley in NZ

Tanja thank you again for all your help, I have lots more names to follow up on now! Was there any sign of Henry & Mary Sanders in Kempston in 1871 when Dudley was with his grandmother Ann Dudley, by any chance? Don't worry if it's a hassle to look into this further, believe me I am so grateful for all your help!
Many thanks & best wishes from NZ Kelley
