My mother worked for the Fire Service in Manchester during the Second World War but she can't give me precise dates although I do have photo's of her in her uniform. I have read somewhere (but can't remember where) that there is some form of recognition for the work that they did during this period. Does anyone know where/who I apply to?
Also does anyone know what form it takes ie certificate/medal/letter? Would love to surprise her with it as she is 85.

Hello folks.... I just stumbled upon this posting, and I am also in a quandary about National Fire Service records. I have been seeking information about my father, who served in "B "Division , 28 Area. in 1941 and 1942. Information is scarce. We have not been able to find anywhere that has any records of this . I also would appreciate any assistance Thanks Brian.

Thank you for your reply I will make contact with them very soon. I didn't realise that they had a museum. Hopefully they will be able to give me some information on where to begin.
