1841 LOOKUP needed please - MACDOUGAL
« on: Saturday 25 June 05 06:40 UTC (UK) »

Trying to get info on my g-g-g grandfather. This is what I know -

Thomas MACDOUGAL born  Mid- Newholm c. 1787. Died 1848.
married Margaret UNDERWOOD in St Mungo 1812. Thomas was a master blacksmith.

Any information about Thomas or his family would be very gratefully received. Thanks.

Hiya Lesleyhannah,

Do you know where he is likely to be?

1841 census is available on indexes published on a parish by parish basis by the D&GFHS.  Some parishes are also available on Freecen to search for free http://freecen.rootsweb.com/

If you can pinpoint where he may be I have some indexes but they may not cover where you want.

All the best,
Pam

HI Pam

Thanks for your reply. I'm guessing now - he was married in St Mungo, but maybe that was where his wife came from.

He was born Mid Newholm - I don't know where that is, and can't find it on my map.

At least some of his children were born in Ruthwell, and he himself was buried in Ruthwell, so I think that is probably the most likely place to find him.

I'm grateful for your help.
