in the 1881 census in arlecdon a william hodgson aged 6 is mentioned as grandson of john and margaret gill born arlecdon. john gill had 3 daughters one married the irving family and that left mary born 1851 and margaret born 1860, so one of the daughters had a son called william hodgson, i suspect it must be mary gill, but i cant find a marriage to the hodgson family and when i sent for the birth certificate of william born 1874/75 the certificate does not mention the mother as been gill. does any one have a hodgson in there family tree with a mother called mary or margaret gill. mary was born in greystoke and margaret was born in cleator, if it was margaret she would have been aged 14 when he was born so everything seems to direct to mary gill
