If you go to scotlands people website you will be able to view 1871,1881,1891,1901 census there.

Hi Shelagh
I and many others could probably look him up on C81 CD at least, if you can't use SoctlandPeople online for some reason - but, George McINTOSH born abt 1832 in Banff is not really enough to go on.
By 1881, do you know if he was married and if so to whom, children names? What were his parent's names? Is he the George Donald McINTOSH born 1831 on IGI to MacINTOSH & Sarah AIREY? Was he still likely to be in Banff.
However, a look at the 1881 Nat Index gives only 2 George McINTOSH born Banff - one abt 1829 in Banff Census and one born abt 1835 in Lancashire Census - remembering that Census ages could be wrong.
Cheers Anne

Hi,
afraid all I know is:-
George McIntosh was 19 on the 1851 census in Inverkeithny, stating born Banffshirem Banff
I think I have found him on the 1841 census aged 9, born Banffshire, census place Alvah. parents James and Margaret
what I actually wanted was to find out what happened to him later but have no info to go on.
From what you posted doesn't look like it will be easy to find him in 1871 or 1881. Never mind and thanks for looking.

There is a birth match on LDS for a George Donald McIntosh born 1831 banff Parents James McIntosh and sarah AIREY
I did the search allowing 5 years either way and it did give me 5 possibles in total, but this was the only one for banff itself and for the year of 1831.
None of the matches that came up had parents called James and Margaret
It is online at www.familysearch.org

Hi Shelagh The 1841 Census George McINTOSH age 9 - parents were James McINTOSH & Margaret HARDIE or HARDER - marriage 1827 on IGI as HARDIE. The other children on C41: Ann Smollett (1834), John (1837) & James (1839) are all found on IGI in Alvah (the first 2 with MMS HARDER, the last MMS HARDIE). Nothing for William age 12 (b abt 1829) C41, or for George age 9 (b abt 1832) - you probably have all this
The C881 George in Banff born abt 1829 is not the 1841 George, checked and found his birthplace & parents are different on IGI. The C1881 George in Manchester was born Scotland abt 1835, age 53 & married to a Maria born Ireland in abt 1847. He was a Dealer in Fancy Goods.
The 1841 George's brother James is probably on C81 if you need details pls ask. Brother William also might be, but age is 50 so out by 2 yrs.
Cheers Anne

I think the George I'm looking for is the one on the 1841 census, parents James and Margaret. Following up on there being no IGI for George and William in Banff, I have found a George McIntosh born 1832 and a William born 1829 both in Alves, Moray with parents James and Margaret, so I think I'll persue that and see where it leads.
The reason I'm looking for George is that he had a son James Walker McIntosh (my great grandfather), mother Elizabeth Low. However Elizabeth married George Jamieson in 1855 and I wondered what had happened to George McIntosh. Maybe he and Elizabeth just parted, or he left Scotland, or he died.
Thanks for all your info it's given me some leads and ideas.
Shelagh
