Thanks David

I'm not as far away as Anne, but Buckinghamshire to Matlock is still a good hike and not one I can do very often.

Hello Anne.

What year are you looking for a marriage...I haven't followed all the thread.

Half of my Eckington folk were married in either Sheffield or Rotherham.

Jayne McHugh also came across this when we were researching for her Staveley site.

Chesterfield parish church is also an option.

Hello Tuppie:
The year I am looking for is around 1830 - 31 as the first child born to the couple George Barker and Hannah Marples was born 28th Sept. 1831 in Eckington.

I know for sure Hannah's maiden name is Marples as I sent for the birth certificate of their daughter Rosetta Barker born 1845 so I could see what the mother's maiden name was.

Regards

Hi Anne.

You can rule out Sheffield St Peters (later Cathedral) there is no marriage there. I checked Monday.

Hello David"
Hope I am not causing you too much trouble!!  I really appreciate your help.  What I am looking for is the marriage of a George Barker and Hannah Marples. I now know that Hannah's maiden name is Marples as I got the birth certificate of their daughter Rosetta Barker which gives Hannah's maiden name as Marples.

The first child I have for George and Hannah Barker is Joseph Barker born 28 Sept. 1831 in Eckington.   As both George and Hannah give their birth place on the census records as being born in Eckington, I would have thought they would have married there!! But you had checked and said you could not find any marriage in Eckington for them.

Tuppie looked in the marriage records for Sheffield and could not find any marriage there.

So now I think I am back to trying to figure out where they could have married.  May guess would be some time between 1830 and 1831 when Josephe was born.

I think this is going to be my new brick wall !!

I welcome any ideas that you may have.

Thanks again

Anne

It's no trouble Anne, I am obliged to find this info to avoid an international incident, and I enjoy doing it but I got your query mixed up with others {too many bits of paper}

There are only a few churches they could have married in at that date so I'll start at the beginning, I see your reasoning and must agree with you, just seems strange they are'nt in Eckington, I will look in St Mary Chesterfield which would be the mother church, you go about your business and I'll be back in a couple of weeks with your info Grin

Now then young Anne, we are struggling on this one, I've been to the Archives and searched St Marys Chesterfield 1824-1834  Staveley 1824-1835  Eckington 1824-1835  No marriage, there is something wrong here.

Just seems strange all the children and them being born in Eckington, you would think the marriage would be local Huh

Anyway with a name like Tuppy you must be a Derbyshire lad?

Hello David:
Thank you very much for looking for me I really appreciate it.  I am at  lost at as to where they could have married. Maybe they did not get married???    I wonder if it would be worth sending for another birth certificate to see what the mother's maiden name would be??  What do you think? As what if he there was two marriages? I don't know what else to think.

thanks again
