Tuppie, sorry, should have looked at your profile, Have you seen the Derbyshire Tup performed?

Sorry anne, you won't understand what we're on about,Just a Derbyshire custom, that seems to have died out.

Now then Anne, I'm at a total loss as to what to think, normally they would marry in the womans parish but as these two both come from the same one that does'nt apply?HuhHuhHuh??

Hi David.

I certainly have...I also know the words to it..

"T'owd Tup was performed  in the "Spragg" Nags Head at Low Common between Renishaw and Barlbro into the 1980's., and other pubs around Eckington.

Sadly it seems to have died out.    Sad

Hello Sylvia:

Thank you for the Marples - Barker information. The Rosetta Barker birth information is right as I got Rosettas' birth certificate a couple of weeks ago. It lists her parents as George Barker and Hannah Marples.  Will check out the other births you gave along with the marriages.  As maybe it was a second marriage for George and Hannah, I don;t know what to think now. That David could not find a marriage for them.

Thanks again

Hi Syliva:
Thanks for the census information.   This family has become my new brick wall.  I don;t know what to think about the marriage of Geroge and Hannah Barker.  Maybe they did marry else where. I will just have to keep looking.

Thanks

You're working hard on this Fair Maiden, I would have thought I had missed the Marriage but the Eckington records are in very good condition and plain to read so I know I hav'nt missed it, We were neighbours of Robin Hood you know back in the 1200s in Sherwood, maybe you were the girl next door Grin

Hello Sylvia:
Thanks for the census information. I think I agree with you, I don;t think they married !!  I had thought of sending for Hannah' death certificate but I don;t think that will give me any clues. Not like the Scottish ones.

Thanks again

HI Sylvia:
Thanks for the information. I think I am going to need the best of British Luck on this family.

I find it interesting that a Rosetta Barker was a wittness for the 1874 marriage for Caroline Barker.  George and Hannah had a daughter Rosetta Barker and my great grandmother Eliza Barker had a sister Rosetta Barker.
