Could SKS look up on the 1851 census for the following family. I am have a very hard time find the birth/batism record for George Barker and his marriage. He states on all the census records I have from 1861 - 1881 that he was born in Eckington, Derby. But unable to find him.

Hannah 54 "
George 22 "
Charles 20 " (grgrgrandfather)

Hi
I have checked the 1851 census image and all i can add to what bagpuss as Posted, is the address is given as just "Egington"
there is an extra son Joseph, aged 19, he is a Coal miner as were George,39
and George, 12, Charles,10 and Eliza, 8 are Scholars and they are all born Egington.

Thank you very much for the information. It gives me something more to work with, as I did not know about the son Joseph. So know I will have another go at trying to find the marriage. What is making it hard to track down George Barker is that there is another George Barker born in Eckington about the same time and I thought that was my George then I realized he was married to someone else!! Oh back to the drawing board as they say.

Hello David:
Thank you for the offer. Could you look in the parish records for the birth of a George Barker born ca. 1811 - 12 according to the 1851 and 1861 census. He states that he was born in Eckington. I had looked at the parish records on a trip to SLC but I thought I had found him but it turned out to be someone else named George Barker as I found him married to somebody else.
Also have not been able to find a death for him as well. As he stayed in Eckington right up to the 1881 census, not on 1891 think he died between those years I he would be buried in Eckington.
Also having trouble finding a marriage for George Barker to a Hannah???
Their first child was named Joseph Barker born ca. 1832 according to 1841 census so think they must have married around 1831.
Thank you for taking the time to look for me. Maybe a fresh pair of eyes can find the baptism record for George!!

Ok Anne, leave it with me, I live near Derbyshire Archives and also knew some of the Barker family from Eckington, I believe some are still around, I don't get to Eckington much these days, I might be a couple of weeks.

I don't think I have answered your query but A George Barker is registered in the free BMDs at Chesterfield registration district died 1884 Dec Quarter age 74 so the age fits, cert ref 7b 452.

Your George must have married elsewhere, I noticed a few of the Barker wives came from Beighton which is in the Sheffield district and I don't have access to them.
You probably have most of the above, but I will look in the Census to see if there are any clues there.

Also it is likely your Hardwicks are a local family mostly to the south of Chesterfield.

Thanks for sending the census information. It does confirm what I have. I am waiting for a birth certificate to arrive so that should give Hannah maiden name. Then I should be able to find a marriage.

Hello David:
I have just received the birth certificate today for Rosetta Barker daughter of George and Hannah Barker. It states that Hannah's maiden name is Marples.
I was wondering if the next time you are at the record office you could look up a marriage for George Barker and Hannah Marples. I have just done a search of familysearch and I have found a Hannah Marples born to a Henry and Sarah Marples of Eckington. Hannah was baptised 1 March 1808.This could be the right Hannah as from the census information Hannah's birth year is 1807 or 08.
I still think that they would have married in the Eckington area as all there children were born there. Plus both George and Hannah states on the census record that they were born in Eckington.
Any ideas where I could look next?
