Hi
My ancestor Alexander Struth was born 1809 in Polwarth near Duns, and came to Australia in 1833. His parents are Robert Struth and Alison Virtue. Robert was buried at Polwarth in 1810 aged 33 years, but this is all I know of this couple. Hoping someone can help me with a bit of info which will enable me to learn some more about the family.

This is from the monumental Inscriptions of Polwarth Parsh as recorded by D.C.Cargill in 1969.
Robert Struth,weaver in Polwarth.Died Sep 26 18[/u]10 age 33 [u]years.
Daughter Helen Struth [/u]1818[u]Oct 26 1812?
I will presune from the quotations and ?? that this stone was hard to read.
I will do the VIRTUE/VIRTUE next and send later.
Hope this is some help.
Will try and check surrounding places for STRUTH's

Trying to use the underlines on the site is messy........
ROBERT STRUTH,weaver in Polwarth died Sep 26 (1810)?
Age (33)? years.
Daughter Helen Struth (1818)?..not sure why this is here like this.
Oct 26 1812 (?) again there was a question mark in quotations.
So..be careful of the dates and use this as a guide line.
You might try a film from the parish and read the OPR and see what you can glean from that.Films are available from the LDS Church on loan.

Daughter Helen was four years old when she died, and I don't know what the 1818? is either. She was the sister of Alexander, and was christened 20.12.1807.
Hoping to find Alison and Robert's origins, if possible.

If Robert Struther died young.....would not it be likely that Alison remarried....especially if there were children to raise......hmmmmmmm.

Found these in the Powarth Parish Cemetery:
James Holiday died July 15 1839 age 72 at Polwarth.spouse Alison Virtue died Nov 15 1815 age 48 and 2 children.dau Margaret died March 3 1871
John Vertue,tenant in Choiselee died May 1782 age 48.spouse Beatrix Sligh died May 1781 age 77.Son George died June 1789 age 10.Dau Isabella died Jan 1781 age 13.son John died 1809 age 30.
John Virtue,Mason in Polwarth died Oct 27 1857 age 77,his wife Mary Mcfeat (?) died 1852 age 60
Christian Vertue,dau to Alexander Vertue,shoemaker in Polwarth died April 6 1758 aged 22.Son Alexander died July 17
17-- 23 years.Alexander Vertue died April 26 1783 age 73.Spouse Alison Manderson died Aug --1794 age 85
James Virtue,Polwarth died Oct 10 1841 age 56,wife Agnes Jeffrey died Feb 20 1856 age 63.son William die Oct 31 1852 age 28.son Robert died Oct 27 1871,55 years.
*wifes death not registered in Scotland in 1856.

Soooo....it might be worth it for you to log on and pay the amount and gather them all and study them at your leisure.
Then when you are quite sure of the ones you want...you can order the cert....(a bit pricey).
