Hi Dawn,

Welcome to RootsChat  Smiley

Have you tried the Dorset OPCs ( www.dorset-opc.com )??

According to the Beaminster page http://www.dorset-opc.com/Beaminster.htm the baptism registers date from 1684 but they are only online from 1813

Earlier marriage registers are already online,
for instance:
John Swaffield & Betty Gillingham married 18-May 1755

Could that be your John ??

The Dorset OPCs also do look ups, so it is probably worth an e-mail  Smiley

Good luck,
Bob

Hi Dawn,

welcome to rotschat. Not sure what you know about family research, so you may know about this site already.

An easy one to start with is the Mormons family search (often shown as LDS = Church of Later Day Saints). It gives various bits of information including some baptisms etc.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

If you put in the details of John Swaffield around 1730 it gives a marriage for 1727 at Netherbury, Dorset. As many children were named after their parents, this may be the wedding of his father. Not bad to only be stuck in the 1730!!

Might not be the link, but might be!

Good Luck
