Hi wildgoose,
There is a wee Stenlake book of Old Linlithgow which I'm sure would contain some good photos.
http://www.stenlake.co.uk/books/lothians.htm
I have bought a few of these for different villages - typically not for Linlithgow though!

This rings a bell with a question that Carol Burns raised a few months ago. Some of her husband's Irish ancestors were there. They were building the railway tracks. A vast number of Irish workers were in some kind of work camp near Linlithgow.

Was Linlithgowbridge sent aside for Irish only?

I'm not sure. This was on the 1841 census as I recall. It might be worth your while looking it up on Freecen.
Carol would know but she's doing other things at the mo. You could try sending her a PM for when she gets back.

Hi Wildgoose,
Many Irish roots in Linlithgow Bridge. During the potato famine in Ireland mid 1800s many came over. Work was available on the railway Viaduct in Linlithgow Bridge, The Forth Bridge was being built and there was a camp at Queensferry. Also Coal and Shale mines in the area. Linlithgow Bridge is on the River Avon and on the Stirling side of the bridge is the Parish of Muiravonside. When you look for ancestors you must always include Muiravonside Parish, which unfortunately is on the Scottish Highlands 1881 census CD, not the Lowlands. Only ten yards away, but often overlooked! regards Brigger
