Beginners / How to Use RootsChat / Adding images to Posting & Profiles
Note that it all works better if you load the photo as an attachment to RootsChat first, and then put it in your profile !
And remember the size limits, I think it is about 120 pixels wide for crests. If it doesn't work at first, reduce the image size, unattach the old one and re-attatch the smaller one and try again (you can do all this by modifying the one posting)

I'm having trouble following these instructions, and have a couple of dim, computer-illiterate questions 
#1: If I am supposed to post the image to Rootschat first, to optimise success, where do I post it?
#2: When I try to add the image to my profile by choosing the "I will upload my own crest" option, nothing happens; the page refreshes and then I am left with a blank where my filename was.
My file size is 184kb, and it is a jpg. I'm using a Mac - would that make a difference? Is my file path not being recognised?
Please help!

#1 "post the image to Rootschat first"
just include your image as an attachment to a reply
For instance, reply to this post, and click on "additional options"
when you have posted your reply, look at the posting and right-click on the image. Click on properties and this will show an address on RootsChat for your attachment. Copy and paste this address into "I will upload my own crest"
#2 A crest-image is usually between 70 - 150 pixels width and height and between 5 and 20 KB.
184 KB is definitely too big for a crest, resize it and try again !!

Well Bob, as you can see, I followed your instructions to the letter, but I'm still just having the Forum Profile INfo page refresh when I add the image address, and then press Update Profile.
I dont' have a two-button mouse as I'm on a Mac, but I did get the image address from the picture I posted to this board:

Try this: copy and paste the URL from your attachment into
I have my own crest:
and click on "change profile"
You may have to logout and logon again, before it "takes".
