« on: Tuesday 29 September 09 01:54 UTC (UK) »

Peter Tiernan born about 1831 - Doogary (Cootehall area)
County Roscommon - Died Dec 4, 1891 in Doogary
Ann McRann born about 1841 - Blackrock - County Leitrim
died March 4, 1918 in Doogary
Peter and Ann were married around 1858 or 1859 in
  Drumshambo (guessing)
Would like to know who Peter Tiernan's parents are
have went thru the LDS microfilm but was unable to read
the info - no luck in searching the BRS site

Marriages in Catholic Church. Parish of Ardcarne AKS Cootehall, (Co. Roscommon)

2 Mar 1854   Patrick    Tiernan     Anna    Reynolds
4 Feb 1856   John    Tiernan     Catherine Cunniff
8 Feb 1852   Domenick Tiernan     Elizabeth Murry (?Mulloy)

See LDS microfilm 989746 for names of witnesses, etc

See LDS film 867945 for change of occupiers of land in Doogary townland 1858 – 1920

See LDS film 844992 Item 6 (1858) for Griffith’s Valuation of Doogary townland

See LDS film 256565 for 1834 Tithe applotment for Doogary townland

Visit http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/LR_maps.html for map of Ardcarn Civil parish and Cootehall Catholic parish.

Do not pay for Roscommon research until you understand how the system operates.

The 1858 Griffith’s Valuation lists four Tiernan occupiers in Doogary townland: Brigid, Michael, Patrick, Patrick junior.

The LDS British Isles Vital records set of 16 CDs list the baptism of Peter Tiernan, 25 June 1854, Father Michael, mother Honor Regan.

The LDS British Isles Vital records set of 16 CDs list the baptism of Bridgid Joan Tiernan, 26 January 1860, Father Peter, mother Anne McCrann.

John = many thanks for that information, surely appreciated

If I wrote to the church in Drumshambo, would the parish
have the parents names of Peter Tiernan?

Kevin,

Drumshanbo catholic parish Leitrim was part of Kiltoghert Catholic parish until c1850
http://www.from-ireland.net/leit/leitrimconts.htm
http://www.drumshanboparish.com/parish_history.htm
1826 > Kiltoghert RC records on LDS film  1279223. Check www.familysearch.org and enter fim number.
Suggest you search the LDS film prior to writing to the Kiltoghert parish priest.
Can’t locate Cloonshanaghy townland. Suggest you check the spelling.
Suggest you exhaust all other sources before paying for Irish research. Their charges are out of this world.

When you look at http://mctiernan.com/mtest.htm remember that the Mc was often dropped.
