Walker & O'Neille? of Barna,Parish of Rahoon Galway
« on: Monday 19 July 04 13:30 UTC (UK) »

A Beginner starts at beginning !
"Jones" WALKER (sometimes transcribed as "James") born abt 1785 married? Ellen ?

Jones Walker of Barna died 12 June 1868 (burial register St Nicholas Collegiate,Galway..his daughter Mary O'Neill? was present at death.
 Jones Walker had following daughters:

1st) Sarah Ann WALKER b? married Joseph WITHERS 31 August 1852

2nd)Mary WALKER b 1818? married James O'Neill ?(School Master) of Barna,Parish of Rahoon, 17th August 1843.

Sarah Ann WITHERS nee WALKER departed Ireland on ship "Lord Dalhousie"  and arrived in Swan Colony,Australia on 28 November 1863 with her husband Rev.Joseph WITHERS and niece **

Mary O'Neill/e ?(Sarah Ann WITHERS' sister)arrived in Swan Colony,Australia per ship "Strathmore" 29 January 1871.

Mary WALKER married James O'Neil/le (School teacher?) in Ireland. They produced the following children:

Alice Ellen O'Neill/e age given on Shipping Records as 16 years..maybe born 3 July 1853,Galway.??
Ellen O'Neill/e age 25(shipping records)
James O'Neill/e age 20... his name deleted from ships list, so may not have embarked or arrived in Australia !!! Did he emigrate to USA or Canada I wonder ?

Note: Ellen O'Neill/e? born 3 July 1853 bap 24 July 1853,parents James (School Master) of Barna and Mary O'Neill.

Family legend has it that O'Neill's were from Galway although children were born at Castle Fermoy in District of Mount Pleasant,Cork.

Help needed...why didn't Mary's husband James O'Neill/e? emigrate to Australia !! Did he die before 1870/71 !!

**Katherine O'Neill/e or O'Neil? b 1844 (Marys daughter) emigrated to Swan Colony (Western Australia) with her aunt Sarah Ann WITHERS & Joseph WITHERS in 1863 (Later Reverand Withers).

Should anyone have any interest please let me know.

Note: Spelling of O'Neill is sometimes !! O'Neil,O'Neille etc

I do not know which is correct !! Embarrassed ...but know they came here...because otherwise, how would I have got here !!!

Footnote: Jones WALKER was probably/possibly a Coast Guard Pensioner in Ireland,he may have served with Royal Navy and was discharged from coastguards in 1849.

He most probably was in Battle of Trafalgar as a Petty Officer !! aged 20 years !!

His name may be transcribed JAMES..but it was Jones WALKER !!...I believe !!

OMG...this a very lengthy post isn't it !
