Thomas Whitten
« on: Tuesday 05 July 05 01:17 BST (UK) »

Seeking more information on Thomas Whitten, son of Joseph Whitten and Eliza greenaway. Born in Ireland, went to Scotland and married Elizabeth Cillen iin 1875.  This census information was sent to me by a Rootschat member, and I believe it is correct. I found a BC on Scotlandpeople for daughter Elizxabeth.  His wife's age is a bit out, but I have found ages to be out on a lot of documents.   I know his brother Jospeh was in England for a while but returned to Glasgow for the 1881 census.   Any information about what happened to Thomas and his family would be appreociated.   Donna

Thank you Helen: It's funny to note that Elizabeth aged only 6 years between 1881 and 1891 and 20 years between 1891 and 1901. I find this a lot. It only goes to show that even if you try to fudge your age, it all catches up with you somehow!!  I also note that names of the children. This should help me to find other siblings for Thomas and Joseph. I just found Thomas a week ago, and I think there are probably more, so I will keep on looking.   Again, thanks.   Donna

HI Helen: Even though I haven't found Joseph on the 1901 Scottish census, I don't think that is him. His wife's name was Janet. However, having said that, I have no death cert for Joseph, so he may have moved to England and remarried. Janet's death cert states she was the widow of Joseph.   It's very confusing.  It would be great to find Joseph's death cert. He died around 1920.   Donna
