1841/51 lookup Appleby Area Westmorland

Please can anyone do a look up for 1841/51 for the Appleby area. Trying to find John Horn born 1795 Dufton, he married Agnes ? and I know of 2 children: William born circa 1828 Brampton and Richard born circa 1830 Ormside. I live in west sussex so cant go to look myself, would be very grateful, Thanks

You can search all these census records in London at the Family Record Centre.   Not such a long trek from Sussex!   They also have many transcript booklets of the 1851 on open shelves that give the folio so searching the film is quite quick.   Well worth a visit if you can get there.

I hadn't realised that all the census records were at the family records centre. Certainly not as far to go as Westmorland !!!

you can also buy transcripts of the 1851 from http://www.cumbriafhs.com/ for less than the price of a train ticket - although if you have lots of research a day at the records centre is very rewarding.

There is also a name index on-line that suggests your family is in Appleby in 1851 - see http://rolyg.members.beeb.net/2439Fols98-195.htm.

It certainly could be, the dates for William & Richard are right, and it would fit in to the marriage date I have for John & Agnes in 1820. The problem has been that there were 2 Johns marrying 2 Agneses one in 1820 & one in 1823. If these are the right family then its more likely that he married Agnes Fowell and not Agnes Metcalf.
