I can heartily recommend the BISHOP's TRANSCRIPTS. I've used them frequently in my research. I just wish I could find them for all the areas I need. Especially useful for dates not covered by birth records.

This site seems to be fairly new:
http://www.cumberlandandwestmorland-opc.co.uk/ (*) http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/cumbria-ops
Lots of information. Some parishes have data transcripts, many still have nothing. But if it grows the way other OPC sites have grown, then it will be a valuable resource one day.
If you are interested in becoming an OPC for Cumberland, then here is where to volunteer !
(*) Moderator Comment: link reported broken, new link found, but see also reply #10 !!

Hi Ann
This is great, I've sat and scrolled right through it, and not one of mine or my husband's relations are there!!!
Oh well, that's one church eliminated for the future.
I wish all the churches around here would get their act together and do the same, one in particular, who aren't very helpful - St Beghs.

That explains why I can't find some of mine Geoff
By missing does it mean destroyed by fire/thrown away? or that they could turn up sometime?
