Your last message to wozzle suggests you don't know anything about James Kettles and Ann Young either.

1851 Census - Dundee

James Kettle    52      Superintendent Burying Ground   b. Dundee
Ann Kettle        56                                                           b. Innelkellar, Forfar
Mary Kettle       27      Steam Loom Weaver                    b. Kinfaurs, Perthshire
Elizabeth Kettle  24     Steam Loom Factory                             ditto
Christina Kettle   17    Winder Flax Yarn                          b. Dundee
Alexander Kettle  13    Scholar                                               ditto

1841 Census - Dundee

Jas. Kittels        40
Ann Kittels        40
Elizabeth Kittels  14
Mary Kittels          12
David Kittels         11
Ann Kittels            9
Christina Kittels    5
Alex. Kittels          4

The IGI on familysearch.org shows:

James Kettles  b. 5/3/1798, bp.8/3/1798 Dundee, son John Kettles and Janet Gibson (submitted by LDS member)

Anne Young  b.30/1/1794, bp.4/2/1794 Inverkeilor, Angus, dau. of David Young and Susan Williamson. (with the Scottish naming pattern this explains the David shown on the 1841 Census).

John Kettles and Janet Gibson married 14/12/1792 Dundee (per LDS member)

David Young and Susan Williamson married 9/3/1793 Inverkeillor (per LDS member) and besides Anne 2 other children were Alexander b.27/8/1795, bp. 3/9/1795 and Robert b.2/8/1807, bp.9/8/1807.

Hope this helps.

Hi Annette7,

Thank you for the info you sent me. I do know about the family of James Kettles and Anne Young although I did not have this 1851 info that you sent,  so thanks for that.

These are the ones I am unable to find anything about John Kettles who married Janet Gibson,  Robert Gibson her father.
Anne Young's Father David Young.

Jean/Jane Smith who married David Kettles a son of James Kettles  and Anne Young . Jean/Jane Smith and her  parents are another lot that are hard to find.
Alexander Smith (Ships Captain)and Ann Archibald both of Dundee.

I don't know if you are able to help with this?

Thanks for what you have done so far it is much appreciated.

Regards

Hello Annette 7,

Thanks for that. It makes you wonder just where John Kettles, Robert Gibson, Alexander Smith and Ann Archibald all came from as there does not seem to be any records of their existence but hopefully one day we may get luckly.
Thanks for checking, much appreciated.

Cheers
Annette.

Hi Annette

In response to something you said in your e-mail.I've come over to this thread andhad a first look at John Kettel (m Janet Gibson).

Not much as yet.

I notice that the marriage/banns describe John as a gardener and also that son James was one  in 1824:

Quote
do now have a copy of the Registery of Births in the Parish of Kinfauns John , lawful son to James Kettels , Gardener, Glendroick & Anne Young his spouse was born on the 14th Oct 1824.

Just wondering if they worked on estates or were own account.

Also, John and Janet (Gibson) seem to have had just the two sons - James and Robert. Given that Robert was  Janet's father's name, I  think we're most likely to be looking for a father James for John.

If there are no MIs for him, then Mort Cloth records or Kirk Sessions minutes might be the best way forward.

I'll see if I can find anything more.

Regards

Hi Gadget,

Thank you for doing that for me , much appreciated. Smiley

I do have a copy that my Neice found when she went to Edinburgh to look for info regarding the Kettles and other names connected to this family by marriage but could not get much at all.

She also got a copy of Elisabeth Jopling Craigie Kettels,  Register of Birth as well.
I have been told by a family member who is also doing the Kettles/Kettels/ Kettle family histories that they were Gardeners and John Kettel worked at Glendroick House.
