Reynolds, Dean, O'Donohue families
« on: Friday 08 July 05 03:15 UTC (UK) »

Hello.  I'm researching from New Zealand and have just discovered I have ancestors in Kildare by the names of Reynolds, Dean and O'Donohue (the last who is definately from Kilcock).  I'm keen to contact other people who may be researching these families.  Thank you.

Hello Mystic Breeze,

The Kildare Heritage and Genealogical Society may be able to put you in touch with someone, or persons, who are researching the same names as yourself. You have shown no dates regarding the ancestors you are researching. You should find the table in the second site enables you to find people who may be related to your ancestors. Griffiths Valuation of Ireland conducted its survey of property ownership in Co. Kildare in 1851.

Hi there
No, I'm stuck!
Charles Reynolds married Martha Dean and they had a son Bernard Reynolds born Kildare 1830.
Bernard married Mary O'Donohue born abt 1834 Kilcock, Kildare.  They had 7 children all born in Kilcock.  Can't find these families anywhere!!

The story goes Mary O'Donohue's family disowned her as she married beneath herself!!  Her family were the Wades, but I'm assuming this may be her mothers family.
I did find a Wade from Kilcock who was an esquire - what is an esquire?  It sounds 'flash' and I'm wondering if its a well to do family and may be "my Wades"!

Kind regards
Michelle

Hiya Michelle,

An Esquire was a gentleman with private means, ie he did not have to work too hard for his living. He possibly owned a small estate (if he lived in the country there would be a good likelihood he did). He would have employed people to work on the estate. He may or may not have acted in a managerial capacity. Someone given the title Esquire in those days certainly came a reasonably well to do family.

Thanks again.  Thomas Wade (esq) is the only Wade showing in Kilcock ... must be connected somehow ... I love a challenge!!

What about a bit of lateral thought here?
I would advise not to ridgetly stick to one area eg Kilcock....If people moved two miles away they would be in Allenwood!!!

Have you tried the Irish local papers EG Kildare Nationalist & Leinster Leader.
There is at least one Donogue 'Conor' Allenwood goelie (hurling/football- not sure) mentioned from around that area.

Dont forget emmigration!!!! Kevin Donohue  Police officer The Bronx New York was from Kilcock. > www.irishtribute.com
Wouldn't mind betting on him being significant to your quest. Specially if the family  needed to make a clean break.
