Can anyone advise me how to obtain copies of bmd records at a cheaper rate than through scotlandspeople who charge £10 each.

I would be after quite a number: can you tell me about bvri.

One example would be Robert Murray born in Garvock in 1832 to James Murray and Jean (Jane) Christie.

can not find Robert but could this be his father

No connection with my line, I'm afraid.

I've been fairly successful at tracing back to the mid-18th century, but it's the copies of the records that I'm after.

The BVRI is the British Isles Vital Records Index and can be bought through the LDS Church for US$20.  It might be worthwhile checking to see if there are many records in your relevant County though first, (there are few in mine so I have been deliberating whether to buy a copy) as you may pay your money and find that you don't get as much help as you anticipated.

Anyway, that explains BVRI.  Hope that helped. Smiley
