I am also connected to Anstice family, some of whom are described on census as channel pilots. A contact mentionned a list of Bristol Pilots compiled by John Rich which goes back to 1632. Maybe one to check in a local studies library. Janet D.

Hi
I have no idea who they are connected to. I collate MIs for Genuki and have no idea of their back ground. I went to school with a couple of Price children from Sharpness may be the same connection. Berkeley Cemetery also covers the Sharpness region.
Sorry about that. Alf

Hi
Samuel Bush (1826-1898) of Framilode/Frampton, my ggg-grandfather, was a pilot on the Severn. He was drowned on 2.09.1898 when the barget he was piloting - The Industry - hit the Severn Railway Bridge whilst loaded in forty tons of stone for the flood defences. According to an article in the Gloucester Journal he had been a pilot for twenty-three years. An inquest into his death was held at the True Heart Inn, Frampton. It may be more of the family worked on the Severn - if so, I would love to hear.

I have collected a lot of data on licensed Gloucester pilots and Samuel Bush does not seem to have been one of them. He is possibly one of the unofficial pilots who were said to have been around at that time.

Hi all,
Have an ancestor Thomas Dimery born 1857 Berkeley Gls. who was a pilot on the river Severn at Sharpness Docks and on the Sharpness Gloucester Canal.
The family also married into a family of Lock keepers on the above canal.
