And that is the error message that your ftp program gives you when you try to connect.

You will, of course, have a firewall program running on your computer and you will have given your ftp program permission to use the internet.

If you have a firewall program. (Which, if you have broadband, it would be a jolly good idea to have.)

Then it looks after your internet connection. It monitors the programs which try to access the connection. If they are malevolent (word of the day) you do not want them chatting away on your internet connection. The only way your firewall knows who is good and who is bad, is by you telling it.

This is called giving permission for a program to access the internet.

If you look at your firewall program, there is probably an icon at the rh side of the bar at the bottom of your screen. Right click on that and select firewall and "internet connectons" or similar.

There will be a list of all the programs which have been granted permission and also those which have been denied.

Don't turn off any Microsoft ones, as some are tied in to the Operating System. Stuff might stop working.

See if your ftp program is there, if not then add it and give it permission.

wow I reinstalled firewall and ran FTP and got connected

Hi thanks for looking I have just added a page or two so if you click on my name you should be sent to my record page and then click on Maureen Wilks and you should get to my mother's record page
let me know if it doesn't I tried it and it worked
I have loads of other pages to load so it will take a while to complete my next step is to get pictures showing
