Updated Topics "Stuck"
« on: Tuesday 12 July 05 23:08 BST (UK) »

Something very strange has been happening with "Show new replies to your posts".  I keep getting the "July 2005 Rootschat Challenge" appearing in the list but stuck on page 22 even though the thread is now up to 23 or 24 pages.  Is this something I've done and can fix or is there a glitch with the system?

Regards,

Allan

The problem is still there today and it seems to be something to do with different date/time settings on different parts of the site:

One the Home Page the time is reported as: 13-07-2005 08:56 (Correct local time)
On the Updated Topics Page the date/time seems to be stuck at 12 July 05 21:50 BST (Yesterday afternoon here)
On the Common Room Board the date/time is 12 July 05 17:58 BST

Has anyone else had this problem or is it just me?  I've checked a couple of other peoples profiles and unlike mine, they appear to show the correct date and time.

It appears to be a cookie conspiracy as I found another browser on my machine (Mozilla) and none of the problems I have with dates/times with my normal browser (IE6) are there.

Now whether this is a result of an attempt by Paul and his secret army of cap-wearing agents to keep me out of Censuswack or just some quirk with my PC I think I need to delete a cookie somewhere but which one?  I don't want to delete all cookies (I have some passwords for other sites stored and it would be a pain to have to enter them again) and I've tried deleting the obvious ones that have "Rootschat" in their name but the problem persists.  Is there a list somewhere of all the Cookies that Rootschat uses so I can delete them and start again?

The cookie that RootsChat uses to remember you for the next time you visit (indeed the only cookie we use) is called 'rootschatcom'

This topic here will give you an idea on how to delete the cookie:

I wonder if you can just press the refresh or reload button instead possibly?

The problem seems to have righted itself on its own after 24 hours.  I noticed that the proxy server I use to access the Internet from here was re-booted earlier this afternoon.  Could this have had anything to do with it?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Al,

Yes - that sounds quite probable - it was keeping a snapshot of an older version on a RootsChat page most probably.
