Look-up please - 1861/1901 STUBBS
« on: Friday 15 July 05 18:00 UTC (UK) »

Hi all

I am researching my ancestor whose name was Alice Rebecca STUBBS.  I know Alice's father was William STUBBS from Devon, and I know mum's name was Jane and she was from Atherstone.

Alice was born in the June Quarter of 1866 in Aston (FreeBMD) - where do I send for a certificate for her birth, and is there a site that will give me a reference number for the certificate?   I've tried the West Midlands site but it's not on there.  I've also tried Warwickshire council site and can't get it on there either.

I also cannot find Alice Rebecca on the 1861 Census - she's not with her parents - please can someone try to find her for me.

Below is the latest Census I've got of the family - can anyone find William and Jane on the 1901?  Or any more of the children.  I already have Alice married to Alfred HALLOWS on the rest of the Censuses.

If you have found the birth entry on FreeBMD then the reference is there too - 6d 291 in the case of Alice R Stubbs June qtr 1866 and you can order the certificate online at www.gro.gov.uk.

1901 Jane, Ann E, Frank, Mary Jane, George, Martha, Frank, John Arthur, another Ann (married), Jessie E, together with other people are all visiting with John Arthur Wood in Smithfield Road, Atcham, Shrewsbury St Chad, RG13/2540 Folio 30 Page 11.

Jane is marked as Married although no sign of William, could her maiden name be Wood, maybe young John Arthur was named after him?

WILLIAM STUBBS
Spouse:  JANE PEARSON  Family
Marriage:  28 FEB 1858   Saint Mark, Birmingham, Warwick, England

this is on the IGI

wouldn't Jane be recorded as "Daughter" if she was the daughter of James WOOD?

I would expect its worth looking into a relationship however distant, or friendship, since they both have the same two names.

Anyway, its your family in 1901.

I think it unlikely you will find her on the 1861 census, since she was born in 1866.
