Hi

I voted earlier for Profile, I browse and try to help people if I can this is only my way of saying thank you for all the help I am getting. Also if it wasnt for browsing the profiles I would not have been able to contact someone looking at the same family as me and finding that they were a distant relative.

I'm fairly new to all this genealogy research and to this site. I feel the same way as some of you about not being able to return the favour when so many people have taken the time to help, especially as I'm in Australia and most of my research is in the UK. This is a generous minded site and the people who help us new members need to know how much we appreciate their time and efforts to help.

Speaking as a "newbie", I'm all for whatever can be done to make navigating and communicating easier.

What I did find after coming to SIT for the first time today, is that it would be great if I entered my surname of interest, which is Hartley, and a Hartley "board" appeared with all other interested parties posts listed for viewing. Maybe this already happens and I can't get there due to ignorance, but it sure would make life a little easier.

Anyway, SIT is a great idea and I'm glad you thought of it Bob.

Hi sadieh,

thank you for your kind comments.

I think what you want is already there, but let's see:

If you click on "SHOW all with my Surname Interests" then you will get a list of all others searching for any names you have entered

or

If you enter any name in the "SHOW all for the entered Name" box and click there, you will get a list just for that name
or better still, enter (as an example) HART and "begins with" or "within word"
then you also get som variations which might be interesting for you.

If this isn't what you mean, then how about repeating your suggestion, in more detail on the SIT Suggestion box http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,48522.0.html so others can comment.

Regards,
Bob

Hi Bob
Thankyou for that. I didn't see those option boxes, however I probably wasn't looking in the right place. There's so much to look at!!! I'll go back to the page and try again.

As for the comments, you're welcome. We need more of this in the world today and it costs nothing to say thanks to the people who hold out their hand in friendship.

Oh well, back to the grindstone. I'll find these people if it's the death of me!!

Good hunting all!
