Trying to find g grandfather John Bryan

Been trying to find a clue to my ggrandfather John Bryan his death cert states he was born about 1839 Glasgow he came to New Zealand about 1861 he was a mariner for some time ,his father was a publican no name was given for either parent any one searching for this family if you can help be great to hear from you Harriet Embarrassed

He should say who his mum and dad, were.

Hi yes i got his marriage cert and his death cert  when i first started looking his marriage cert has his name age and occupation so it doent not give any clues at all harriet Undecided

Thanks if his father was a publican in Glasgow there must be some trade directory for taverns etc.The family story about ggrandfather was he was born Kilkenny ireland and ran away to sea so when i got his death cert and saw he was born in Glasgow it was a surprise so i think maybe it was his father that ran away to sea and ended up in Glasgow it is very frustrating  however thanks again harriet Shocked
