Hi Bill Thanks for your information.
OK I will disregard the birth information so far. I am wondering if he used the name REID as an alias just for his crime? Given that he was stating the letter was from John Reid.
Trish and Audrey thanks for your input.
You have given me a lot of information about his crime.
Being convict stock  Smiley living in Aust. I am not familiar with the area in question. But I have been to Scotland back in 1982 and loved it.
