Hello Christopher,
I'm interested in one marriage that I know took place a the church, and another one that might have taken place.
Firrstly, the marriage of Peter Burns to Mary Murray in Q2 1890. I believe this marriage definitely happened at St Peters.
Peter Burns was born in Liverpool, so why was he in Drogheda when he got married? Possibly because his father, who emigrated from Ireland to England some time in the 1840s/1850s, came from that town. So it's the possible marriage of his father, Patrick Burns, that I would like to check.
Patrick Burns married Mary Carroll, but there is no record of a marriage in England, so I'm wondering if they married in Drogheda. Patrick was born in about 1842, and Mary in about 1841.
Any help you can give would be gratefully received.
Regards, Chris.

You could check the film from LDS. St Peter's, Drogheda 1744-1804 0926036 St Peter's, Drogheda 1815-1880 0926037 http://www.rootsweb.com/~fianna/county/louth/lourc.html
These are the RC records.
Usually, the groom would marry at the church of the bride. As to why he was in Ireland, could he have been in the Army?

Pat,
Your suggestion about Peter Burns, born in Liverpool, being in the army is a good one. I wonder if he could possibly have been a merchant seaman. There was a lot of trade between the busy port of Liverpool and Ireland.
All the best, Chris

Thanks for the information , and the thought about the army. I hadn't considered this, but I cannot recall my grandfather (son of Peter Burns) ever mentioning his father being in the army. He was a plasterer, who served his time as an apprentice in his father's business. Although born in Liverpool, he spent most of his life in Ulverston, Lancs and is recorded on every census from 1871 to 1901, either as a scholar or a plasterer.
Do you have an address or other contact info for LDS. Presumably you can order the microfilms direct from them?
Regards, Chris.

Hi Chris! Any chance it could have been St Peters Church in Liverpool?? Annie http://tinyurl.com/9z8ec scroll to Liverpool! No, it's definitely Drogheda. I have other evidence to that effect. Peter Burns left Liverpool with his family at an early age according to the census returns.
