Hi, I am looking for a butcher (John Wright) in Winwick c 1780. Have looked at the directories available but have had no luck, has anyone any ideas?

I found the info in OPC in the parish of Leigh:
Marriage: 24 Apr 1785 St Mary the Virgin, Leigh, Lancashire, England
John Wright - Butcher of Winwick Parish
Mary Collier - Spinster of Leigh Parish
Witness: Isaac Turner; John Collier
Married by Licence by: John Fawel,Curate of Wigan
Register: Marriages 1777 - 1786, Page 176, Entry 698
Source: LDS Film 559188
The names correspond and the dates so I am assuming (and I know that is dangerous) that this is the John I am looking for.
If you look on the Lancashire site under Delta59 you can see what other people have said. I am sorry if I could have directed you from this site but I don't know how to do it

Yes, the problem as always is how to be sure it's the one you are after-and getting a cross reference to confirm this can be difficult.
